A Valley for All Seasons Since 1886
Over the past four years, we’ve reimagined Homestead into a one-of-a-kind, four-season retreat, where elevated accommodations, inspiring gathering spaces, and new culinary and wellness experiences come together. Every detail has been designed with intention, honoring the land’s legacy while embracing what’s next. And this is only the beginning. With more on the horizon, we’re proud to share how far we’ve come.

From Schneitter’s Hotel to Homestead Resort
Homestead Resort was born in Midway, Utah nearly 140 years ago. Simon Schneitter, a watchmaker, and his wife Maria immigrated to the United States from Switzerland in 1862 with their two children, joining other Swiss settlers in the Midway area. After farming the land, they discovered a hot spring that inspired Simon to found Schneitter’s Hot Pots, a local attraction allowing visitors to swim in the warm mineral waters. Alongside the “Hot Pots,” the Schneitter family constructed a hotel to house and feed guests. Purchased in 1952 by the Whitaker family, the hotel was renamed The Homestead Resort and underwent renovations to preserve its historic, rural charm. Today, Homestead proudly continues the Schneitter family’s hospitality legacy.

Originally built in the 1800s to store dairy on the Schneitter farm, Milk House was beautifully restored as an on-property coffee house and ice cream parlor. From starting your morning with a hot cup of coffee, flaky pastry, and breakfast sandwich to savoring unexpected comforts like home-churned ice cream and rich fudge, Milkhouse has a special charm that invites you to slow down and savor life’s simple pleasures.

At over 10,000 years old, the Crater is the oldest and most iconic symbol of Homestead’s pioneering spirit and legacy. This 400-foot-wide, 55-foot-high beehive-shaped limestone geothermal dome was a gathering place for 19th-century settlers, ultimately transforming the land into the valley’s first resort. With a natural temperature of 90º to 96°F, it is the only warm-water scuba diving destination in the continental U.S., and its otherworldly atmosphere and medicinal waters make it an ideal location for a soothing swim or a paddleboard yoga session.

Nestled beside the pool and near the turn between the 9th and 10th holes, 1886 Grill is a laid-back favorite for barbecue lovers that will soon undergo renovation and become a year-round food destination. From wood-fired pizzas and smoky barbeque to boozy malts and shakes, this casual spot invites you to unwind with smoked meats, craft beers, and a full-service bar after a day of valley adventures.
